Students were to work together in teams to construct towers that were strong enough to hold textbook(s) for at least 10 seconds, using gumdrops, toothpicks; or marshmallows, popsicle sticks...the tower could be any shape, but it had to be taller than a paper cup...
They could get more supplies, if they felt they needed more; and they had to alert me when it was time for tower to be tested...some students entered a cycle of planning, fixing, testing, and planning again until challenge was met...
Story by: Rochelle Dedeaux, Tech Foundations Teacher
Students had their first Pep Rally on August 30th to support our team on game night! All students were pumped up and singing the Magnolia song and the band members amazed the crowd with their awesome songs and talent!
Meanwhile, Dr. Barkley got pied in the face by one of our students for a good cause!
GO MAGNOLIA TIGERS!!
The LIFT classes at Magnolia Middle School have partnered with the Moss Point Rotary Club to decorate 55-gallon drums. The Rotary Club sent out a plea for assistance as Ingalls donated 8 drums to the city to be used as trash receptacles for the upcoming Cruisin’ the Coast event.
Three of these drums were delivered to Dr. Betty Merhundrew and her LIFT classes on Wednesday, August 23. Each of her three 6th grade classes will choose a theme for a drum and will have it ready for display by October 1. Paint and materials are being provided by the Moss Point Rotary Club.
Magnolia Holds Beta Club Induction
Sponsors of the Magnolia Middle School Beta Club inducted 10 new members on Tuesday, August 22. The induction was held in the school library in front of family and friends. Former MMS Beta Club President Chloe Batiste presided over the induction and pledge ceremony.
Alana Crear, Brandon Scott and Kendra Seals are the sponsors of the Beta Club and are working hard to create an organization where students are rewarded for excellence in academics and citizenship.
Jazz Band Entertains at Beta Induction
The first official appearance of the Magnolia Middle School Jazz Band was Tuesday, August 22, as the group entertained for Beta Club Induction Ceremony. The music group performed two different tunes to help create a celebratory atmosphere for students being honored for their excellence in academics and citizenship.
The group is being led by Band Director Brandon Scott and percussion instructor Jerry Thompson.
Vision Statement: “The vision of Magnolia Middle School is to have a learner-centered culture where students and teacher collaborate, create, share, write, talk through the thinking process, and ask higher order questions.”
